Perform duties to assist Press Operators in set up, running and wash up of jobs going to and from press. This position reports to the Plant Manager and his/her absence the Assistant Plant Manager.

Press Helper responsibilities:

• Retrieve raw material from inventory and return finished rolls back to “Work in Process” staging areas;

• Obtain inks, additives and solvents from ink department;

• Loading and unloading rolls from press during production;

• Assist press operators cleaning and changing anilox rolls, doctor blades, ink fountains, print cylinders and other press components to ensure presses are run according to job specifications;

The Flexo Press Operator position responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Reads, reviews and understands the assigned and scheduled job according to the detailed specifications on the job ticket, QMS documents, the spec sheet(s), customer spec sheets(s), and proofs, including the approved press samples, in order to set-up and run the required equipment.

Is responsible for ensuring that all required materials and components for the job are available and at the press. These include; stock, dies, print cylinders, inks, pumps, color standards for premium colors, etc.

Inspects all components for acceptable quality before running the job. These include such items as dies, plates, stock, inks, auxiliary equipment, etc. Inspects samples for fine detail sometimes using tools as digital scopes, micrometers, spectrophotometers, fine rulers.

Selects the correct color sequence and makes needed adjustments to anilox rollers, doctor rollers.

Completes the make-ready and installs all required auxiliary equipment in order to meet or perform the necessary job specifications.

Test-runs using make-ready stock to verify the accuracy of the set-up.

Achieves press “OK” (match/approval) on the job proofs under the direction of the Production Shift Supervisor.

Proofs all copy and performs a die test. Compares die registration and copy placement.

Balances and maintains ink systems for print quality.

Maintains equal or better quality than the OK’d sample throughout the production run, flagging all poor quality product.

Performs a complete quality check, at the end of every printed roll, by comparing it to the OK’d sample utilizing any required quality inspection equipment. Performs a die test, at the end of every roll, on all jobs. Checks for offsetting on liner. Makes any required adjustments.

Performs all necessary written documentation according to required specifications.

Checks the next scheduled job to determine if any components presently at press site will also be required for the next scheduled job.

Dismounts or removes all auxiliary equipment which is not common to the next job, and performs the required clean-up procedures.

When appropriate, directs the maintenance, clean-up, and set-up work tasks of the press assistants to aide in the efficient running of the presses.

Performs routine and preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment.

Performs all assigned work efficiently and on schedule.

Follow written and verbal instructions accurately.

Keeps work area neat and clean.

Takes care of equipment following specified work procedures.

Reports time and materials consumption accurately.

Reports all problems to the Production Manager or the Production Shift Supervisor.

Above average mechanical aptitude and ability to perform repetitive manual tasks. Manual dexterity and excellent eye/hand coordination are required to safely manipulate rolls of stock or carts and skids with finished product throughout the plant. High School general education or GED equivalent. The Print Shop Manager leads all Print Shop activities including pre-press/plate making, hot stamping, flexographic and digital print functions. • Create functional process with Design Studio to minimize necessity of files that require corrections thereby eliminating the need for any back and forth. Develop protocol for files received from India so that we can eliminate the need to redo files.

Process Improvement

• Develop new methods and procedures that create value for the operation by designing an organized workflow and schedule production effectively to maximize throughput at lowest cost.

• Work with Technology Department to integrate MINTED & ARMS in the Print Shop to track and manage jobs. Create reports that yield data to manage shop effectively.

Review job ticket and work with Press Assistants to ensure job is set up properly on the press per required specifications and job notes (ink, dies, stock, plates).

Assist in setting up job and changing over to next copy or job.

Run the job setup on the press and log data related to the job setup in the LabelTrax system.

As a Press Operator - Here’s What You’ll Do:

Work first shift from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and work some occasional overtime.

POSITION PURPOSE: Collecting and preparing all necessary information to provide accurate and thorough material & labor costs for manufacturing projects in response to customer requests.

Sets up printing press to achieve “run/start” status and approval from QC. 4. Begins run, adjusting speed, tension, and alignment of printing plate as necessary. 5. Monitors the quality of printed materials and color match prior to full production. 6. Cuts sample of printed material from end of printed roll and inspects for imperfections and documents results. 7. Maintains a print register of materials and related paperwork as required. 8. Lubricates and oils the press as needed. Maintains a neat and orderly work area throughout the shift. Cleans the equipment at the end of the shift per prescribed procedures. 9. Minimizes waste by maintaining set-up, press layout, registrations and color regularly. 10. Washes press and returns job components at end of run.

Job Responsibilities:

Examine job orders to determine quantities to be printed, stock specifications, colors, or special printing instructions. Ensure that press team members know job details to ensure proper press utilization.

Ensure plates are correct for current job.

Verify that paper and ink meet the specifications for the job and verify against the job ticket.

Perform press operations to operate and run press, such as make-ready, register color, and general press operations maintenance activities. Ensure press speed and quality are maintained.

Coordinate efforts of all press team members to ensure press is set up and operated according to press schedule(s).

Collect and inspect random samples during print runs to identify any necessary adjustments.

Ensure quality standards required by customer are met and maintained. Perform press duties to achieve, maintain and monitor quality of signatures throughout the press run, including such things as: maintaining consistent color, registration, and folds.

Ensure that correct proofs are available for each job and returned upon completion of the job.

Pull proofs to check for ink coverage and density, alignment, and registration.

Ensure proper color by setting color and adjusting color as required by quality requirements.

Monitoring and direct press activities to ensure proper print quality.

Determine when additional plates/blankets are necessary, coordinate with prepress to get new plates. Dispose of plates in recycling area.

Maintain waste within acceptable range as defined by management per the job.

Ensure proper housekeeping on and around press, keep work area clean and safe.

Ensure that all safety mechanisms (such as guards, interlocks, and other devices) are in proper condition and report any deficiencies to supervision immediately.

Perform routine maintenance on the press with press team members as required to maintain press functionality. Direct other press team members on necessary work to keep press operational.
