JOB SUMMARY:

This position exists in order to provide leadership and technical expertise in the direction of a crew in the set-up

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position has no supervisory responsibility. However, this position has leadership and training responsibility for an assigned crew consisting of a 2nd and 3rd Pressperson and may be asked to provide job performance input for those crewmembers.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTMENT:

High school diploma or equivalent,

v The ability to read and write English,

v The ability to perform simple arithmetic computations, (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication & Division), including comfort working with fraction and decimals, is required,

v Accurate color discrimination,

Computer competency is preferred.

EXPERIENCE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of two years experience, (five years preferred), as a Lead Pressperson on a multi-color offset printing machine producing quality, 4-color process work is required.

Mitsubishi experience is preferred.

Experience leading, motivating and training a multi-person crew is required.

Employees having a minimum of two years experience as a 2nd Pressperson, (4-years preferred), that demonstrate a high level of maturity, leadership, decision-making, professional integrity, self-control and aptitude will be considered.

Ability to accurately discriminate colors a must.

Ink and water balance, color control & management and registration control required.

Paperboard, in-line coating, ultra-violet ink and hand-held and scanning densitometry experience preferred. Spectrophotometry experience is a plus.

Communication skills required

Must be able to handle frequent interruptions and re-formulation of plans, and should be capable of providing input regarding process, quality and productivity improvements.

Mitsubishi multi-color offset printing machinery with in-line coating unit and perfecting unit. Hand-held densitometers, scanning densitometers, plate bending machine, hand trucks, barrel jacks, and assorted hand tools.

QUALITY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position is responsible for the following:

v Consistent and accurate reproduction quality of printed paperboard while minimizing raw material waste and maximizing machine and crew capacity,

v Standard of quality of all product produced by the crew under his/her leadership,

v Inspecting printed product,

v Qualifying product on the basis of inspection attributes and specifications,

v Identifying and segregating marginal and non-conforming product,

v Releasing and communicating the status of the qualified, printed product for further processing

Position Overview: The Supervisor's role is to ensure that all of production is operating safely and productively during normal operational hours. Maintain a clean working environment with quality throughput. Foster’s a positive work environment with open lines of communication between 1st and 2nd shift.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Confirm all job sign-offs (beginning and end) are done accurately.

2. Initiate conversation with all press operators prior to shift start about what they feel will get done during their shift.

3. Help troubleshoot any machine/press operator issues.

4. Work closely with the 1st Shift Supervisor and 2nd Shift Supervisor during change over to effectively communicate what either needs to be done or what is being passed along to the incoming shift.

5. Accurately monitor the throughput your shift is producing (daily).

Review job ticket and work with Press Assistants to ensure job is set up properly on the press per required specifications and job notes (ink, dies, stock, plates).

Assist in setting up job and changing over to next copy or job.

Run the job setup on the press and log data related to the job setup in the LabelTrax system.

The Press Supervisor is responsible for assisting for the safe, quality and efficient operation of flexographic printing presses.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Adheres to and enforces the established safety, quality and food safety policies and procedures and other regulations. Ensures these procedures and expectations are maintained throughout the shift and validates that the associated inspections are performed.

• Reads and analyzes production schedules to determine production requirements and evaluates current production estimates and outputs.

• Manages production jobs for efficiency, meeting or improving upon standards for setup times, waste and output (effective feet/minute). Ensures standard operating conditions are followed per machine, per job. Continuously motivates and challenges operators to set higher, yet achievable goals and provides support to attain them.

• Can utilize all available measurement tools (such as ruler/tape measure, X-rite-ColorCert,X-Rite 530,i1 and , Techkon, etc.) and our Color Management System to validate quality.

• Continuously monitors the Press Department to insure that all material, product and equipment inspections are being completed according to Press Department procedures.

• Continuously motivating and coaching Press Department personnel to increase engagement in Press Department operations and attain higher levels of competency in the performance of their duties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• HS diploma required. Associates or Bachelor’s degree highly preferred.

• 5+ years experience in flexographic printing press operation; 2+ years experience in a supervisory capacity in a printing environment

• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with a minimum 5 years in a supervisory role overseeing 20 or more front-line employees. Experience participating and/or leading in continuous improvement projects. Background in Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing highly preferred. Basic to intermediate computer operation skills; Experience with web-based software, ERP systems and Microsoft suite products, such as Word and Excel.

Duties and Responsibilities

Receives and thoroughly reviews and understands the entire job jackets, job specifications, and customer requirements.

Performs job setup/changeover and operates/troubleshoots press following all pprocedures and safety measures.

Visually inspects and tests film for quality defects.

Minimum of 3 year printing experience in a flexographic manufacturing environment operating a Wide Web Flexo Printing Press.

Experience with web-based software and ERP systems required.

Basic computer skills, required. Basic math skills, required. Must pass the New Hire Base Assessment Test, which measures basic arithmetic and mechanical aptitude.

Able to operate basic tools and measuring devices (tape measure, scale, etc.).
