Night Shift - Mon - Thur

3:00 pm – 1:30 am

Position Summary: Responsible for the manufacturing of printed labels while continuously monitoring label quality and press conditions. Meets safety, housekeeping, quality, scrap and productivity quality standards. Sets up and operates a flexographic printing press.

Responsibilities:

Review job ticket and work with Press Assistants to ensure job is set up properly on the press per required specifications and job notes (ink, dies, stock, plates).

Assist in setting up job and changing over to next copy or job.

Run the job setup on the press and log data related to the job setup in the LabelTrax system.

Run the job per specifications and log when completed, noting material used, etc.

While running the press, review printed rolls for quality and consistency related to all aspects of the labels including color registration and die cut.

Following completion of the job, move finished roll to finishing department and breakdown and clean machine in preparation for the next job.

Communicate with Shift Supervisor and/or Production Manager regarding any issues with the labels and dies.

Ensure proper data collection for each job, including job notes on material and time variance.

Perform basic troubleshooting of the press along with the Press Assistant and Supervisor.

Maintain the work area and machines in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed company policies and safety regulations.

Actively participate in continuous improvement activities and participate in training when offered or needed.

Follows all plant and corporate safety rules, procedures, and guidelines. Reports all safety concerns or issues to their immediate supervisor

Responsible for working overtime when needed and as assigned

At least three years press or printing related production experience preferred.

• Reads and analyzes production schedules to determine production requirements and evaluates current production estimates and outputs.

Ensures standard operating conditions are followed per machine, per job. Continuously motivates and challenges operators to set higher, yet achievable goals and provides support to attain them.

• Can utilize all available measurement tools (such as ruler/tape measure, X-rite-ColorCert,X-Rite 530,i1 and , Techkon, etc.) and our Color Management System to validate quality.

Work Environment

· While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to noise levels such that we require the use of hearing protection.

· Occasional contact with solvents requires that long-sleeved uniforms, gloves and safety glasses be worn. The employee will occasionally be exposed to solvent fumes and flammable liquids. Working with these chemicals possess a risk of fire or explosion from an ignition source, therefore Static Dissipating (SD or ESD) safety shoes are required.

Under general supervision, the printing press operator performs duties related to flexographic printing machines and software programs to effectively create Label Products per client request. Primarily responsible for producing printed Labels by following printing job specifications, setting up, Q.C., operating, adjusting, and maintaining the printing equipment. Responsible for fulfilling numerous printing projects under tight and demanding schedules to reflect various deadlines. May also need to play the role of a press repairman/troubleshooter if maintenance on one of the machines is required.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a Monday through Friday standard work week. Overtime may be required in the form of extended shifts and weekend work, often on short notice.

12. Make plates per the Prepress Department’s design and customer requirements. Mount plates on indicated cylinder size in correct unwind and position per specifications. Clean and file plates to ensure the clearest impression on the press.

13. Pull upcoming jobs before they are due to ensure the plate mounting is complete before being needed by the press area. Keep up to date on the upcoming schedule by viewing the schedule board. Seek out job tickets, plate files and Master Books to secure additional information as needed.

14. Receive and request supplies for the plate mounting area. Coordinate with the purchasing/production planning coordinator to order needed supplies. Receives and records dies and cylinders from outside sources.

15. Return and file plates in the proper order.

16. Fill out all paperwork properly (Audit sheets, Pull sheets, Remake slips, etc.).

17. Safely operate a forklift following appropriate training & certification.

18. Return material to proper storage location. Record material usage transactions accurately in computer system.

The Press Operator is responsible for supporting the goals of the plant in the efficient operation of a narrow-web flexographic press. Their job is to print labels to specification, and assure that quality is being maintained in a consistent manner. Press Operators may be expected to run equipment with UV and/or water-based ink. Presses have anywhere from six - twelve stations.

This is a technical and skilled position, and a candidate must have flexo printing experience to be considered. An ideal candidate is someone mechanically inclined with solid printing-environment experience, strong math skills, good attendance, and a desire to grow their career with us!

- Performs and supports Preventative Maintenance on press

- Comply with quality assurance specifications of the customer and including but not limited to handling procedures, paperwork requirements, etc. Compliance with all data integrity, product safety, and GMP standards required.

Job Requirements

Experience/Skills Required:

- High school education or equivalent required

- At least one year experience successfully operating a flexographic press comparable to what we have available. Prior knowledge of printing processes and previous experience as Press Assistant, or skilled Rewind Operator prior to becoming a Press Operator strongly preferred.

- Ability to run press and assist press set-up, and clean-up – ability to do all duties described plus regular requirements of safely lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs, 20+ feet in distance regularly; 75 lbs+ occasionally

- Ability to work with water-based ink, UV ink, solvents, and various print-shop chemicals

- Proven ability to understand and operate roll lifts, press equipment, and operate in a safe manner

This position is responsible for timely and accurate mixing of inks and preparation of plates, screens, and printing supplies by performing the following duties

Duties And Responsibilities

Mixing of inks per production specifications

Prepare and expose printing plates for production use.

Prepare and expose silk-screen frames for production use.

Prepare all necessary forms, labels and paperwork needed for production job jackets.

Complete weekly inventory of inks, plates and supplies and place orders to keep supplies in stock.

Formulate new inks to submit for customer approval.

The Press Operator role is responsible for the set up and operation of single and multi-color printing presses in accordance with the printing specifications and customer requirements/expectations.

Must have at least 2 years experience running narrow web flexo presses, and hot stamping, cold foil and embossing.
